Calciphylaxis with facial involvement.

چکیده
Calciphylaxis presenting as progressive painful necrosis of the skin and subcutaneous tissue in patients of chronic renal failure is increasingly recognized owing to the greater awareness of the condition w1–11x. Pathogenesis remains uncertain and specific therapy is debatable. We report a case with facial involvement, which to our knowledge has not been documented before. This patient subsequently died of septicaemia and spontaneous gastrointestinal haemorrhage. Diagnostic investigations like endoscopy and mesenteric angiogram, though planned, could not be carried out due to the poor general condition of the patient.

Calciphylaxis is a cutaneous process without involvement of internal organs in a retrospective study of postmortem findings in three patients.
Calciphylaxis causes calcification, thrombosis, cutaneous ischemia, and necrosis in the skin and subcutaneous tissue. It is unclear to what extent it involves other organs. To identify whether other organs are affected we reviewed pathology reports of patients with calciphylaxis who underwent autopsy at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota, between January 1, 1970, and December 31, 2011. Three pat...
متن کاملThe Successful Treatment of Calciphylaxis with Sodium Thiosulfate and Hyperbaric Oxygen in a Non-dialyzed Patient with Chronic Kidney Disease.
We present the case of a non-dialyzed patient with chronic kidney disease and biopsy-proven calciphylaxis who presented with painful cutaneous ulcers on both legs. The skin ulcers drastically improved within 6 months after the initiation of hemodialysis, aggressive wound care, the control of a mineral and bone disorder, and the administration of sodium thiosulfate and hyperbaric oxygen therapy....

SLE: systemic lupus erythematosus INTRODUCTION Soft tissue calcification (calcinosis cutis) is a rare disorder with 5 different subtypes: dystrophic, metastatic, idiopathic, iatrogenic, and calciphylaxis. Dystrophic calcinosis refers to the deposition of calcium in areas of prior tissue injury in patients with normal serum calcium and phosphorus. Dystrophic calcification has been associated wit...
متن کاملCalcification of the liver in a patient on renal replacement therapy diagnosed with systemic calciphylaxis
Calciphylaxis is an entity that manifests in patients with end-stage renal disease. Also known as calcific uraemic arteriolopathy, it is associated with calcium deposits and the appearance of necrotic lesions in the skin and blood vessels. Of unclear pathogenesis, it can present with hypercalcaemia, hyperphosphataemia and secondary hyperparathyroidism. Vascular calcification is its histological...
متن کاملLocalized pemphigus foliaceus with unilateral facial involvement: A case report
Pemphigus foliaceus is an autoimmune blistering condition more often than not associated with generalized lesions. Localized Pemphigus foliaceus is a rare entity. Herein, we report a case of pemphigus foliaceus localized on the face. A 64-year-old woman was referred to our clinic with a 2-year history of erythematous plaque on the right side of her face. The histology report was compatible with...
